Grupo Comercial Control chooses to digitally transform its category management capabilities with Blue Yonder and GOLDCO

Leading Mexican Retailer Seeks to Expand Category Analytics and Understanding Capabilities with Blue Yonder’s Solution to Improve Customer Experience

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – [03/07/2024] – In a highly competitive industry, retailers must be able to make decisions quickly and efficiently to meet consumer demands. That’s why Grupo Comercial Control, an industry-leading Mexican retailer, has selected to implement Blue Yonder’s category management SaaS solution to address a gap in its retail operations and gain the ability to create planograms that offer a better shopping experience by minimizing out-of-stock products. The deployment was managed by GOLDCO, Blue Yonder’s strategic partner.

Grupo Comercial Control has more than 60 years of experience in department stores through the Del Sol and Woolworth brands, as well as the Noreste Grill restaurants. The retailer has more than 120 stores in 70 cities in 25 Mexican states. Grupo Comercial Control was looking for a solution that would allow it to satisfy its consumers by exceeding purchase expectations, as well as increase profitability to potentially expand. The retailer is turning to its long-time supply chain solutions provider, Blue Yonder, and a leading implementation partner with extensive retail strategy experience, GOLDCO. Grupo Comercial Control currently uses several Blue Yonder solutions as part of its strategy to digitize and optimize its operations.

Once the Blue Yonder solution is implemented by GOLDCO, Grupo Comercial Control will be able to:

  • Standardize business rules to ensure that the product assortments selected for each category meet the company’s defined strategies, as well as that the expected performance within the category is performed in an agile and consistent manner.
  • Complement the category analysis with inputs such as: market information (make real-time comparisons of positioning versus market categories), include trade agreements or agreements with category captains, and create dashboards to verify the value/growth of proposed changes.
  • Clear definition of objectives based on measurable KPIs, evolving the portfolio of products offered to its customers.

Blue Yonder’s category management solution offers an assortment optimization capability that takes the product assortment recommendation process to the next level by translating the common principles and priorities of an assortment selection (e.g., consumer decision trees, historical shopper information, etc.) into actionable or assortment tactics, which makes an ideal assortment recommendation for the business. Assortment optimisation brings a consistent approach to the assortment selection process, so that different assortment updates (e.g. range revisions, small updates, etc.) have the same principles applied. The assortments are planogram-specific (multiple planogram sizes and groups) and space-sensitive, ensuring that the selected assortment fits within the available planogram space.
